The Eyes of the Gull

Based on the novel by Margaret Duley, adapted for the stage by Kent Stetson
Directed by Charlie Tomlinson
Commissioned by Rising Tide Theatre

A young woman caught between the two changing worlds of the old Newfoundland and the new, between a harsh mother who sees life as duty and drudgery, and an artist “from away” who captures her imagination and opens her heart. Duley herself was conflicted by her beloved Newfoundland where she recognized the raw beauty of the outports but also saw them as a place where women had few choices. Larger than life characters, a sweeping landscape, and great writing combine to make The Eyes of the Gull a must see.
